You can Control your Idle status in Gtalk using gAlwaysIdle

Google Talk does not provide built-in functionality to allow you to control your idle status. There are times when you want to use messenger and be online, but without letting others know about this. Seems like impossible in Google talk, now made possible by gAlwaysIdle.

How to Increase internet speeds on Windows XP Professional

This is quite true in case of Windows XP Pro-based computer. It has a something called Quality of Service. Technically, it is the ability to provide different priority to different applications, users, or data flows, or to guarantee a certain level of performance to a data flow. Such a mechanism implies that the bandwidth is not completely optimized, and hence is not used in its maximum.Turning the QoS Scheduler off can help increase the available bandwidth by leaps and bounds. It is a simple task, as outlined in the steps below (remember that it is XP Professional only):

1. Go to Start > Run, type gpedit.msc and hit enter.

2. In the window that comes up, in the left pane, double click Administrative templates, then Network and then QoS Packet Scheduler (see image )

3. In the right pane, double-click Limit Reservable bandwidth.

4. In the window that comes up, click ‘Enabled’, and then set the ‘Bandwidth limit’ to 0%.

5. Click OK, restart the computer and you’re ready to go!

What to do when Some Website Do Not Open On Your Computer?

Your computer is connected to the Internet and you can reach most websites just fine but there’s a problem when you try to open some particular website(s).
Though that website is unreachable from your computer, it is definitely not down because you are able to access the same website from another computer at home.
Facing a similar problem ? Here’s how to diagnose and fix the problem,

Try these methods it should work

Method 1:

Check your Windows HOSTS file - Make sure there’s no entry in the hosts file that maps the website’s address to localhost or an incorrect IP address like 127.0.0.1 - it is a possibility if you have imported some third-party hosts file.
cmd /k notepad c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Method 2:

Find Faults in the Pipeline - Paypal website may be up and running but it is possible that the real problem lies with a router that is between you and the computer hosting the Paypal website. Do a traceroute and check for messages like “Request Timed Out” - they will help you find the location of the breakdown.
Type the following command in the Run Window:

cmd /k tracert

www.paypal.com - remember to replace paypal with address of the website that is unreachable.

Method 3

Clear DNS Cache - The DNS cache keeps a record of sites that you have recently visited on your computer. If that gets corrupted, you may have issues opening sites that were previously accessible without problems.
Type cmd /k ipconfig /displaydns in the Run window to see the cache entries. If that unreachable website is listed in the cache, type cmd /k ipconfig /flushdns to clear the cache.

Method 4

Website May Be Blocked - The chances are rare but it is possible that access to some particular website may be have been restricted by the Office firewall. To test this, send an email to

www@web2mail.com with the problematic website URL in the subject field. If the website is up, you will get a text copy of the web page in an email message.

Method 5

Suspend/Deactive the Anti-Virus and Firewall - If you are running an external software firewall or anti-virus program (like Norton, ZoneAlarm, etc), exit and restart the web browser. Is the problem solved now ?
When nothing works, open 192.168.1.1 and reboot the modem. At times if you are using cable connection you may not have access to 192.168.1.1 then you have to call the provider or if it is changed you have to have the correct ip to reconfigure the modem.

If that fails, restart your computer and as a final step, call your ISP support for help.

How to Recover a Corrupted Windows XP

Most of you would have seen the Bluescreen Windows Error which comes up whenever something unexpected happens but probably most of you did not know that it is called the Blue Screen of Death. It usually comes around after encountering a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down to prevent damage.
Bluescreens can be caused by poorly written device drivers, faulty memory, a corrupt registry, an incompatible Dynamic-link library (DLL), or the computer overheating.
After encountering such a Bluescreen error, most non-tech savvy computer users give up and assume that a serious issue has corrupted Windows and thus it needs a reinstall. However that is not the case mostly and Windows can be recovered into its original state by performing a little tweak called the Disk Checkup.
Requirements
Windows XP installation CD Patience Whenever you experience such a Bluescreen error and after many tries you see that Windows is not starting up you can perform a disk checkup following the steps below:
Restart your computer Boot from your Windows XP installation CD Press R to open the Windows XP Recovery Console Type CHKDSK /R and press enter (wait patiently till the whole recover/repair process is completed) Type BOOTCFG to fix any problems in your boot.ini file Restart your computer again and press/hold the F8 key Select “Last Known Good Configuration” and press enter After this your Windows should work fine and properly.
Note: This tip intends to help you recover a corrupted Windows XP and does not tell you how to repair your Windows XP installation. There is difference in in “recovering” and “repairing” when we are dealing with Windows OS.
